Dear World – I have only a few details about my latest restaurant joy except to say it’s a wonderful, fabulous restaurant run by some marvellous people who filled me with faith and optimism about where food can go in this country. The Green Shed in the beautiful town of Beechworth, steeped in its sensational history is my find of the year. A lovely chicken with spinach and lemon consomme preceeded a slow braised pork neck – both long in flavor and caring preparation. A small select range of cheeses included a superbly aged cheddar with our finale of desserts being classically crafted brulees. All put together in the simple, untittivated charm of The Green Shed where the cosiness was only surpassed by two of the nicest young people running the show that you could possibly meet. And the wine list is various, smartly put together and exceptionally good value for money as is the whole menu.
